Washington - First week - July 31, 2017

Leaving SLC

Arriving to Seattle

HELLLLOOOOOO from the great state of WASHINGTON!!!

Everything is so green and beautiful here! Trees are huuuuugggee here, they are like 50 or 60 feet tall everywhere! Its all green and awesome! anyways, since I haven't really emailed in like 2 weeks almost I'll get into that stuff. The last week at the MTC was so good! but sad as well. Sister Cahoon and Jarvis and Elder Downs and Hepner left monday morning it was so sad! We said goodbye at like 2:30 am, crazy morning stuff. but yeah. Tuesday we woke up at 3 am and got in line with like 50 thousand other missionaries and stuff haha, but i got my ticket and stuff thats whats up!!!! Flying was fun, I sat next to a member and a window so thats cool..it was raining in Utah and sunny in Seattle so that was weird...kinda flipped lol. I got here and the AP's came to find me at the baggage claim and then my companions showed up late to get me, but the AP's were way nice and then I met my comps, Elder Hess goes home in one transfer he is from Central California and he really slurs his words a lot haha, he doesn't talk like a californian. Elder Bird, has been here for 2 transfers and is from Springville Utah and he really considers everything he says before he says it, he is really quiet. Anyway, they're cool. We have 2 investigators, Brady is committed to baptism Aug 26th but he really has to work on some commitments still, he might not be ready on time, he is really stubborn and slow to change. And we have a new investigator named Andre who lives in a town called Sumas, right next to Canada that we will be going to tomorrow. I can't go into Canada but I'll be able to see it, first time seeing a new country!!! haha Umm lets see it rained once in the morning. Elder Hess said it was just mist, but there was water falling from the sky so you tell me...The rainy season doesn't start for a while though...The branch is really small, like 30 regular members, yesterday we had 54 though so that is good. Oh i gave a 25 minute talk so that was cool, Saturday night Brother Stratton called and said they needed another talk for yesterday and Elder Hess said, oh! Elder Schoemig can do it! so i did it haha, it was fun, but when i get in front of people my signing box (which is already tiny, sorry for being stubborn about it before Kenny) gets way small...like super small cuz i get really nervous...and "I sign like a Utahn" so I will be adjusting my sign language to sign like the people here, Brother Stratton really wants me to focus on that and be more like the people here so that is good! I'm excited to learn and grow! Sorry I don't do a day by day thing like Sister Schoemig, she is way more organized than I am...
President Schofield and Sister Schofield are awesome super friendly and supportive of ASL. Its tough being in ASL here because when you find a deaf person they're normally like 40 or 50 miles or more away so you have to drive to get to them and then they're just like oh i'm not interested...its tough because I don't really feel like I'm doing what the Lord called me to do, we are going to be making some changes though, the missionary work in the deaf branch hasn't really changed in a couple years and they only get about 1 or 2 baptisms a year..so I'm planning on changing some stuff. it'll be good..
Love you guys! I know the Savior loves you and so do I! read the scriptures and say your prayers! they really make a difference! I love you guys! Mom if you need anything else or want to know anything else let me know! I will tell you! Tell me about home everyone! I want to hear about it!
One last story, a miracle, i went on exchange in Mountlake Terrace and we were tracting in an apartment complex and we knocked on the door of a hispanic family, a little boy answered the door and we asked him if his family was here another man walked up, like a gangster guy who was very interested in the church. when we asked if we could come visit him later he said he was visiting from California, but we gave him a book of mormon. but just a miracle that we timed it so well to talk to him right when he walked up, it was really cool!
Love, Elder Schoemig!!
People from the MTC who want my emails I am sorry but i lost a ton of email addresses! Email me if you want to be added to the list! Also, one of the Hungarians tell Hess Elder that his cousin is my trainer!
Look at the bottom, theres emails there, my videos are taking long to send so i'm just going to save it and then we will get it to you to watch later.

Sis. Schofield, Elder Schoemig and President Schofield

Made it!!!

Hey family! Just got in to Seattle about 3 hours ago, the assistant to the president's picked me up with my new companions Elders Hess and Bird, they're really funny and really quirky, I am in ASL for at least two more weeks. I met the president and his wife and they are super nice! I hope to get to know them really well before they leave next year! The flight in was amazing! It was raining in Utah and sunny in Washington it is flipped haha. I got to see mount rainier and the remains of mount st Helen's on the flight in, it was way cool. Anyway just want to let you know I'm ok! I'm happy and ready to get to work, just a little tired haha. Oh and this morning I met a sister on her way to West Virginia! Sister Harris I think her name was, so she probably met Sister Schoemig! Anyway love you guys tons! Lots of love from the great state of Washington!

Week 5 MTC July 19, 2017

busy busy busy

Hello everyone!  So today is pretty busy so it might not be as long, but really it'll be as long as it should be haha, anyway, how's everyone doing??  First of all congrats to all the black belt testers, I'm so proud of you all! You guys inspire me to keep working harder every day!  To Dakota, don't even worry about it! Drivings not all it's cracked up to be and you'll get it!  Congrats to Jess for getting an awesome job! Also good job to anyone who did anything this week that's pretty cool!

Sorry to anyone who I don't respond to this week, it's kinda crazy and I have a feeling next week will be similar, so it might be a while before I'm able to respond, but I still love you!

Umm so last night at the devotional we had a speaker talk about how we need out testimonies to be like a raging storm but under control, I thought that was cool, our testimonies must be huge powerful tools of conversion for us all to use, but we need to keep that power under control and use it to benefit the people around us, anyways, I just thought that was cool. But yeah, this week has just been chugging along, the spirit guides us more and more so it is really cool to see that in our planning and in our lessons.

Ah but about my travel plans and such, I leave the MTC July 25 at 3:50 am, and my flight leaves SLC at about 8:30 so that's pretty neat, it's only about an hour and a half flight. I am going to be flying alone and that's pretty neat.  I just can't wait to get up to Seattle, it's kinda like when school has like 3 weeks left and you've finished all your AP tests so you're just like, what am I doing here?  But not quite because I sure have plenty of stuff to learn don't get me wrong, but it's just anticipation now we're all getting a little restless and some people in the district are getting way nervous about leaving, so it's hard to just reassure everyone in the district that it'll be ok because some people are way nervous about basically everything, but it'll all be good.

Yeah I don't really know what else to say, class is going good, I'm gaining a HUUUUUGGGEEE testimony of the Book of Mormon, it's really amazing, anyway, love you guys!  Mom if there's anything else you want to know, just let me know!

Week 4 MTC pictures - July 12, 2017

Germans, Crying, And much much more

So to start off, all of the Germans left this week, on Monday morning
and that was really tough, they were super awesome and we're going to
miss them so much!!!!

Ok so this week was pretty much same old same old, and I'm not going
to do a day by day email cuz I'm not entirely sure what happened on
what day so I'm just going to tell you guys what's up!

So first, shout out to the big sis Amanda for being awesome and being
born! Cuz I forgot about it and I feel really guilty! So my birthday
present to you, since I'm in the MTC, is me leaving for two years so I
don't bug you all the time! Yay!!!!

Ok also, how is black belt testing going? I miss it so much! That is
such a special thing to be a part of, I'm super sad I'm missing it!
Additionally! How did demo team do?? I'm super excited to hear about
the demo! I'm sure it was amazing, if someone wanted to send me a
video, it would not go unappreciated!

Umm let's see, shout out to everyone who saw Spider-Man homecoming,
I'm super jealous, but I'm gonna be honest the MTC is a lot better
than a superhero movie, I'm sorry if sent anyone into shock with that
last comment because me, Elder Schoemig said that, but it's true, but
let me know how it was! No details please but how was it! Heard it was
amazing, I would love to hear about it, but no spoilers! Haha
Lets we what else, oh also happy birthday to Kendyl and Maili! I think
that's it, if it was your birthday and I forgot about it I'm sooooo
sorry.

Shout out to Andy and my new cousin Whitney, you guys are awesome!
Remember to always put the Lord first and he will bless your marriage!
Umm we had a good devotional last night kinda centered around the
quote, "I wouldn't give a fig for the simplicity on this side of
complexity, but I would give my life for the simplicity on the other
side of complexity" I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about
what that means in relation to church, anyway, it was way good, I've
given two blessings this week and it's going great, Thuringia to
figure out how to be a better leader as a missionary and I've been
asking brother peck tons of scriptural questions, we're really similar
so we like to talk about scriptures and stuff like that, it's way fun
when the scriptures teach you new things with other people, super
cool. We have four investigators and 2 member lessons a week, so we
teach about 10 lessons, a week, it's a lot but it is really cool to
study for other people and not myself. Umm what else, yeah the Germans
left, super sad, but I get my flight plans Saturday!!!!!!! I'm super
excited, right now there are 13 days till I leave! Crazy!

Just wanted to let EVERYONE know how much I love them and how much the
Lord loves them, everyone is important to our savior Jesus Christ and
he will always be there to support us! I've seen that more than ever
in my district! Things are going good with my companion, he's still
just a quirky quiet elder but that's ok! I went on a run the other
day, that was cool I guess, it was pretty fun. Umm we discussed the
Book of Mormon and stuff one day, I led the discussion, we focused on
one chapter, for us it was Mosiah 27, and we each chose a Christlike
attribute to focus on and it was way awesome! I would invite everyone
to try to do that!

Ok, I think that's mostly everything, love everyone at home! Keep
striving to grow and find truth and love in your life, I promise it's
there even if you can't really see it!

Elder Schoemig's bed

The famous map!

ASL District

Ice on his knee!  Hyperextended his knee few weeks ago.

Dryers was out so they had to air dry their clothes last week.

Elder Bishara (Calvin) on the right, from our branch in Lehi.

This is a gorgeous mural and it is Elder Schoemig's favorite.
It is the parting of the Red Sea.  So beautiful.  Can't wait to go on the tour in this new building.

More picture from the new building.
